Saipem is an international leader in Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation services to the oil & gas industry. It is present in Chennai, India, with Saipem India Projects (SIP) Ltd. The creation of a center of excellence in India to manage Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts is of strategic importance to Saipem, giving it the flexibility to maintain its competitive edge.

SIP has been developing extensively its human resources, its competencies in the oil & gas onshore & offshore projects and its all-embracing expertise.

SIP’s transformation into a full EPC hub is one of Saipem latest and major investments. Thus, its services now range from feasibility study to commissioning, operations and maintenance in the sectors of Onshore and Offshore Pipelaying, Cryogenic Tanks, Refining and Petrochemicals.

Saipem India Projects provides project management and co-ordination services by combining two vital components:

• A project team staffed with committed and exceptional technical personnel.

• Skilled engineering specialists who provide ace support to the project team.

SIP covers the entire spectrum of upstream/downstream as well as onshore/offshore projects and all its teams are well-equipped to handle projects right from conceptual studies through detailed and field engineering. Its procurement services also encompass market scouting, cost estimation, request for quotation, technical and commercial evaluations, contracts negotiations, post-order management including inspection and expediting, shipment and customs clearance. Saipem India Projects has business relationships with a large panel of suppliers and subcontractors in both domestic and international markets. With an 800 strong workforce, SIP is continuously strengthening its professionalism and its extraordinary dedication to the customer satisfaction combined with an utmost sincerity.

 

 

Company History and Development 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SIP history starts in 1983, as part of IDEA Ltd, a Company floated by managers from BHEL providing project services primarily to Power projects.

In late 80’s, IDEA Ltd established co-operation with Lummus Crest and developed capabilities in Process plants, particularly in the  Oil & Gas downstream sector, and executed projects both for domestic and international clients. 

IDEA Ltd then became a member of Babcock Borsig Group, Germany in 1993 and continued to provide engineering and project services to Power and Process plants.

From 1998, a growing partnership started with Bouygues Offshore s.a., France (currently Saipem s.a.).

The Process division of IDEA was spun-off as a separate company in May 2001 to focus on Oil & Gas industry. Taken over by Saipem s.a. In March 2003, the company has changed its name to become Saipem India Projects (SIP) Limited in Jan 2004 and relocated itself to a world-class building. 

The development of SIP within Saipem has been illustrated by:

  • Significant growth of resources (from 170 pax in 2003 to over 800 in 2010)
  • Competencies extended to Oil & Gas onshore and offshore
  • Cryogenic tanks expertise developed and serving all Saipem cryogenic projects   
  • Self-supported Project Center set-up capable to execute full projects from Chennai
