Cryogenic
Tanks Technology
Since 2003 SAIPEM s.a. has
decided to transfer the know-how on the engineering of
the LNG full containment tank to SIP. These tanks are
based on the concept of a self standing 9% Ni steel
inner tank put inside an outer concrete vessel able to
contain the LNG in case of leaks of the inner tank. The
engineering of these tanks combine expertise in
structural and civil works (post tensioned concrete
structures). It includes sophisticated calculations
based on non linear transient finite elements analysis.
Saipem has also transferred
its technology knowledge for cryogenic tanks other than
LNG.
More than 12 cryogenic tanks
have been designed in SIP from 2003 to 2006 by a
dedicated task-force team.
Today SIP is the Saipem
recognized project center to manage and deliver
cryogenic tank projects in a self-supported manner.
